The Virgin, Our Lady, Gilded Wood - 21cm

Statue of the Virgin Mary, made of beechwood, 21 cm height.

The artist aimed to represent here the one we call "Notre-Dame de Paris" or also the Virgin at the Pillar. She is finely carved in wood, and certain elements like her crown are gilded with 24-carat gold.

Artisanal work that perpetuates the ancestral traditions of wood carving from a mountain valley.

A very finely executed work, a magnificent reminder of the most beautiful statue of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral.

For four generations, our partner workshop has passionately crafted sacred wood sculptures.

It is based in Val Gardena, Italy, a mountainous region where wood carving has been perpetuated since the 17th century.

Expert artists from the art schools of Ortisei and Selva Gardena sculpt the basic models: true works of art, always different and innovative.

These models are then cast in bronze to be reproduced later on a pantograph. Alpine forest wood (from controlled reforestation areas) is best suited for sculpture.

An expert craftsman transforms the wood blocks into sculpture blanks using a pantograph. These blanks are then meticulously handcrafted in every detail.

The Virgin with Child present in Notre-Dame dates back to the 14th century. First venerated in the old Saint-Aignan chapel on the Île de la Cité, she was integrated into the facade of the cathedral to replace the Virgin destroyed during the revolution, before being placed by Viollet-le-Duc in the transept of the building, on the right side, where an altar dedicated to Mary had always been located. The statue is then prayed to under the name of "Notre-Dame de Paris."
