This recording presents us with some of the Cantor of Leipzig’s
masterpieces in a variety of styles: fantasies, preludes, passacaglia,
fugues, and chorales. In all of these domains, Johann Sebastian Bach
carried the art of composition to perfection.
The composer was driven by his very profound faith; on his manuscripts,
he would place the letters S.D.G. (“Soli Deo Gloria", meaning “Glory to
God alone”) before his signature.
Playing the Notre-Dame organ (before its restoration), Philippe Lefebvre here
gives us his own vision of these monumental works, majestic
and contemplative by turn.
